School of Hope competing in Cinemamed Festival

Mohamed El Aboudi’s School of Hope will compete in Cinemamed Festival, in the MeDoc series, among 18 other documentary films. The festival will take place for the 21st time on December 2. – December 11, 2021. 

The Cinemamed Festival was established in 1989 to promote authors rooted in the Mediterranean area and to enrich multiculturalism in Bryssel. In addition to the screenings, the Cinemamed Festival will organize meetings and discussion events to tell stories of the Mediterranean area as well.   

School of Hope is an intimate and charming portrait of optimism in the harshest of environments. In the vast expanse of desert East of Atlas Mountains in Morocco, seasonal rain and snow once supported livestock, but now the drought seems to never end. Hardly a blade of grass can be seen, and families travel miles on foot to get water from a muddy hole in the ground. Yet the children willingly ride donkeys and bicycles or walk for miles across rocks to a “school of hope” built of clay.
