Producer Oona Saari has started as the CEO of Illume Oy since the beginning of January. Saari holds a degree in media studies and has been working at the company since 2018, both as a production manager and a producer. Alongside Saari, Jouko Aaltonen continues as the second producer at Illume.
Illume Oy is a production company founded in 1987 by Heimo Lappalainen, Pertti Veijalainen, and Jouko Aaltonen. It is one of the leading companies in our country specializing in documentary film production. Over the years, the company has produced approximately 150 films, many of which have been successful at festivals both domestically and internationally. The company has won the Best Documentary Jussi Award twice. One of the latest productions is Kallio, directed by Heikki Huttu-Hiltunen, which premiered on TV1 last Independence Day and is still available on Yle Areena. In 2024, premieres include I Smell a Mouse by Iiti Yli-Harja and Children of War and Peace by Ville Suhonen, which competed at the end of January in the prestigious Big Screen category at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. The Finnish premiere of the film was at the DocPoint festival, and later in the spring, the film has been available in cinemas. Illume has several projects in development, many of which are initiatives by talented young filmmakers.
