Kyösti Kallio was a Finnish statesman, minister, Governor of the Bank of Finnish, speaker of the parliament, prime minister and finally president during the Winter War
(1939-1940). After the bloody civil war, his role was to unify the divided nation. While Kyösti was making political career and forming the nation in Helsinki, his wife Kaisa Kallio was taking care of the family's farm in Finnish countryside 500 kms away. Kyösti and Kaisa wrote intimate letters to each other every day. Mundane details about raising pigs and harvesting are intermingled with issues of the nation's destiny.
The film is based on these letters, photos, archive films and re-enacted scenes.
